11.2.4 Musical Recordings and Publishing Company (EGREM).

The Musical Recording and Publishing Company (EGREM) (1008 3rd Street between 10th and 12th Streets, Miramar, Havana) was founded in 1964. It is the oldest Cuban record label. It boasts one of the most extensive music archives in the world.
The Company has several subsidiaries located throughout the country, including: Commercial Divisions in Havana, Varadero, Holguín, and Santiago de Cuba; the Tecmusic Division for the sale of musical instruments and accessories; and the International Trade Division based in Havana.
For business purposes, it is responsible for the production, promotion, distribution, and marketing of phonographic productions both in Cuba and abroad. It is also responsible for national and international artistic representation and the presentation of musical shows at Casas de la Música.
It also has specialized stores in several provinces of the country (Havana, Matanzas, Holguín, Santi Spíritus and Santiago de Cuba) where you can access record copies of countless artists.
The EGREM recording studios (1008 3rd Street between 10th and 12th Streets, Miramar, Havana City) are located in three facilities known as: Areito Studios, Siboney Studios and 18th Street Studios.
The record label has five recording studios: two in Areito (410 San Miguel Street between Lealtad and Campanario Streets, Havana); two in the Siboney district of Santiago de Cuba (367 San Félix Street between San Germán and Trinidad Streets, Santiago de Cuba). The newest studio is located near the Miramar headquarters (103 18th Street between 1st and 3rd Streets, Miramar, Havana). The latter has a mobile studio for on-site recording. The acoustic design and installation were carried out by the English firm AUDIO EASTLAKE LTD.
The EGREM Studios (1008 3rd Street between 10th and 12th Streets, Miramar, Havana), now Areito Studios, have a rich and extensive history. During the first half of the 20th century, the Pan-Art label, later renamed Panart, was located there. This label was the first legitimately Cuban record label. This marked the beginning of the creation of the first catalog of Cuban music.
Important musicians from both the national and international spheres have passed through the EGREM recording studios (1008 3rd Street between 10th and 12th Streets, Miramar, Havana). The incomparable voices of singers such as Benny Moré, Bola de Nieve, Elena Burke, Omara Portuondo, Rosita Fornés, Celina González, Ibrahim Ferrer, Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Ela Calvo, Sara González, Beatriz Márquez, Tito Gómez, Nat King Cole, and Josephine Baker have also been heard. The majestic performances of figures such as Rubén González, Chucho Valdés, Frank Fernández, Leo Brouwer, and Richard Egües have also been heard.
