11.7.15 Enrique Kiki Corona.

Enrique Kiki Corona, better known as Kiki Corona, is a prominent Cuban singer, composer, and member of the Nueva Trova Movement. He was born on January 13, 1960, in Havana. The singer-songwriter began his musical career in 1972, when he enrolled in the Alejandro García Caturla Conservatory (1110 120th Street between 9th and 13th Streets, Cubanacán, Playa, Havana), specializing in guitar. He was mentored by professors Olga Recio and Clara Nicola.
Four years later, Kiki began to join the ranks of the Nueva Trova Movement thanks to her presence in the Río Negro group, where she sang duets with Xiomara Laugart, songs from the Latin American musical repertoire, directed by Professor Luis Ramírez Zúñiga.
In 1978, he joined the group Canto Libre, while also studying with maestros Carlos Emilio Morales, Leopoldina Núñez, Armando Romeu, and Abelardo Bosh, who taught him classes in composition, orchestration, counterpoint, harmony, and folk guitar.
Beginning in 1983, his career gained momentum within the Cuban cultural world, as he shared stages with professional artists and joined the choral octet Ecos, directed by singer and teacher Argelia Fragoso. He began composing incidental music for Cuban television and radio series. That same year, he won the Caimán Barbudo cultural publication award and a Jury Mention for his musical composition “Te amé junto a la brisa” (I Loved You Next to the Breeze) in the Adolfo Guzmán Cuban Music Competition.
In 1986, he received Second Prize for Composition, a Jury Mention, and other awards from various media outlets and specialists for two finalist songs in the Adolfo Guzmán Cuban Music Competition, becoming the only composer to have been selected by the jury with two works.
Two years later, Kiki Corona joined the group Mayohuacán as a singer and composer, and with them he has performed concerts throughout the country and abroad. He has also ventured into film music, adding to his extensive list of works the score for the film Sabor Latino, a co-production between ICAIC, Tutor Cine, and Tabasco Films from Cuba, Spain, and Mexico, respectively.
In 2001, she was nominated at Cubadisco in the Children’s Music Category for her CD, Lullabies for You.
As a singer, Kiki Corona has been invited to record projects in Brazil and Italy, alongside figures such as Claudio Nussi, Marco André, Lela Piñeiros, and Paolo Vallessi. He has produced phonograms for prestigious Cuban artists such as Elena Burke, Luis Téllez, Paulo Fernández Gallo, and David Torrens; for the vocal groups Exaudi, Coralina, and Vocalité; and for the Mayohuacán orchestra.
