In Amaury Gutiérrez’s work as a composer, his lyrics are drawn from diverse sources, including literature. He has set to music works by José Martí and several other Cuban poets of his generation. The guitar is his main instrument in his songs.

His style, as he himself defines it, is “Cuban Pop,” which is nothing more than a mix of diverse musical genres that encompasses the old and new Trova, contemporary music, Caribbean rhythms and the authorial feeling of the golden age of bolero, and Mexican music and lyrics.

His debut album, Amaury Gutiérrez (1999), sold more than 600,000 copies. In 2008, he participated in the Kumbia All Starz album A Puro Grito.
