Evelyn García Márquez, a distinguished Cuban pianist and performer, was born in Havana. Descended from a musical family, her mother, Beatriz Márquez, is a renowned singer; and her grandfather, René Márquez, was a Cuban composer and singer. She pursued musical studies, specializing in piano, at the Manuel Saumell Music School (660 F Street, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana), which she enrolled in at the age of eight.
When she was just ten years old, she joined the children’s group Las Chikis. She recorded several television programs with them. She later graduated from high school at the National School of Art (120th Street between 9th and 13th Streets, Cubanacán, Playa, Havana).
Evelyn began her professional career in 1991, upon completing her training. During that time, she performed with prominent figures and renowned Cuban music groups such as Adalberto Álvarez, Juan Formell y Los Van Van, Ramón Huerta’s group, the Trio Los Embajadores, Mayohuacán, and Perspectiva.
Her debut album, which bears her name, was recorded in 1996. That same year, she traveled to Barranquilla to co-produce an album for BMG. She participated in the 1Y2 Bolero Festival held in Bogotá, Colombia. In that city, she worked for three years as a teacher in Misi’s workshop.
Later, in 2002, Evelyn García Márquez recorded an album as the singer of the Dominican electronic music group ABSINTH. She was a special guest on an album by Cuban bassist Jorge Reyes in 2004.
Her second album, conceived in 2006, is a pop album titled Complicidad. This album features two music videos.
She’s a pop singer, but her repertoire includes songs from other musical genres, including jazz, bolero, guaracha, and son. Evelyn García arranges and composes the songs she performs.
He has performed his music in numerous radio and television appearances. He has also toured internationally, to countries in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Throughout his artistic career, he has performed at various musical events, as evidenced by his appearance at three Oti de la canción festivals in Cuba, where he was a finalist. This list also includes other festivals within the Cuban music scene, such as Jazz Plaza and Boleros de Oro.
Evelyn García Márquez currently lives in Madrid, Spain, where she continues to pursue her singing career.
