Charanga Latina, a prominent Cuban popular music group, was founded in May 1992 by Enrique Álvarez, who has served as its director ever since.
The instrumental format of this Cuban orchestra is typical of charangas. Charanga Latina is made up of eight Cuban musicians, who demonstrate a high level of professionalism in each of their performances.
Their repertoire includes diverse genres of popular dance music, such as bolero, cha-cha-chá, cumbia, merengue, son, and mambo, with salsa being the most notable.
In 2000, Charanga Latina won the Grand Prize and the Popularity Prize at the Adolfo Guzmán Competition.
Throughout its existence within the Cuban musical scene, Charanga Latina has taken its music to numerous venues in various countries in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
He has also shared the stage with prominent musicians during his careers, including Barbarito Diez and Tito Gómez, with whom he toured internationally in the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Mexico, and Venezuela. Wilfrido Vargas, Federico Brito, Oscar D. Léon, and Andy Montañés are other names we can add to this list.
His album, Para mi Santo, was released in New York during the Salsa Festival held there.
