Nassiry Lugo Lugo, composer, singer, and director of one of Cuba’s most famous pop-rock bands, Moneda Dura. He was born in the neighborhood known as El Romerillo, located in Playa, Havana. He began his musical career as a student at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Vocational Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences in Havana (Carretara El Globo Km 3 1/2, Las Guásimas, Arroyo Naranjo, Havana), performing in festivals and concerts.

He founded Moneda Dura in 1997 at the University of Havana (University Avenue and Vedado neighborhood, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana), while an English language student. With this program, he has represented Cuba at important events such as the Hispanic Heritage Gala in Spain. Their repertoire fuses alternative rock, pop, funk, reggae, and Cuban, Latin, and Caribbean music. Lugo composed most of the songs and arranged them.

His compositions are influenced by great figures of Cuban music such as Silvio Rodríguez and Juan Formell, as well as internationally renowned artists like Dylan, Sting, and the Rolling Stones. His works are a vivid reflection of everyday Cuban life, skillfully combining humor with reflection.

Among Nassiry’s works we can mention: Lola, Callejero, Me quedare and Mala Leche.

With his group, he has released five albums, including: Cuando duerme La Habana, Callejero, and Alma sin bolsillos; almost all of them composed with his own music, with the exception of Ojalá, which was composed by Nueva Trova artists.

In addition to his work as a composer, director, and singer, Nassiry also directs the music videos for Moneda Dura, and directed the video for the song Luna Llena. He has also made forays into film, appearing in the film Nada.

He undertook a successful national tour in 2008, sponsored by the Union of Young Communists and the Cuban Institute of Music (452 ​​Calle 15, corner of Calle F, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana). La madrugada, the theme song of the 11th Congress of the Federation of Secondary School Students (FEEM), was presented to the public during the tour.

Moneda Dura from Lugo is considered the number one Cuban pop-rock group and is the pioneering group in the opening of pop music in Cuba.
