12.21.16 Norberto Puente Quintana

Norberto Puente Quintana, a distinguished Cuban orchestra conductor, currently serves as director of one of Cuba’s legendary popular music groups, Maravilla de Florida.
He began his professional career as an art instructor in the Cuban province of Camagüey. Later, in 1984, he continued as a professional musician.
Norberto Puente Quintana has been a member of several Cuban groups, including the Sonido Caliente orchestra from Las Tunas, the Conjunto Yakeré, the Charanga 86, the Conjunto Sorpesa, and the Orquesta Tínima, among others.
In the 1990s, specifically in 1994, he joined the ensemble of the renowned Cuban group Maravilla de Florida. Norberto Puente Quintana later took over as the orchestra’s director in 1997. He also serves as an arranger, composer, and pianist.
His discography consists of several albums.
Among the awards this Cuban musician has collected, we can mention his 2003 Adolfo Guzmán Popular Music Competition win for the song “Yo te doy la clave.”
