13.11.11 Mayco Marrero Arencibia (Mayco D´Alma)

Mayco Marrero Arencibia, a prominent young Cuban singer, was born on October 30, 1983, in Havana. The son of Angelito, who was then a singer in a quartet (currently a member of the Sexteto Típico de Sones), his childhood was spent in an artistic environment that, influenced by his father, defined his early vocation for music.
He began dancing as an amateur in a group called Primera clase in 1998, and after auditioning for their television debut, they were selected by director Gloria Torres to perform on her television show, A mueve (Get Moving). However, his musical interests extended beyond dance, and he began his singing career, joining the Latin pop group Megalo in 2001. The group also included three other young artists and achieved great popularity with the song El verano ya llegado (Summer Has Arrived). This first major success took them on tour in Spain, where, under the record label Vale Music, they managed to record their first CD, which included covers of classic English-language songs. This quickly placed them at the top of the charts on various Spanish radio stations.
After Megalo broke up, Mayco decided to venture into the salsa genre in 2004. Through the popular television program Piso 6, he learned that Pedrito Camacho needed singers for his orchestra. He contacted him, auditioned, and was chosen as one of the main performers of El Clan. In this group, he learned to better understand the music world and interact with the public, who immediately recognized him for his performances.
After nearly four years in Pedrito Camacho’s group, and at the peak of the group’s career, Mayco decided to leave to embark on a new phase of his career, exploring a new musical market, this time with reggaeton, a genre that was booming in Latin America. During this time, he formed a duo with El Insurrecto, but the experience only lasted about three months because the artist discovered that the genre didn’t fit his style or personality.
At the beginning of 2008, the young performer focused entirely on his dream project of forming his own group, of which he is the director and through which he successfully develops his solo career, managing to record his first music videos. The group, under the name Mayco D’Alma, also includes eight other young musicians and includes bass, electric and acoustic guitar, piano, and drums, becoming a part of the musical catalog of the Antonio María Romeu company. His new musical proposal focuses entirely on Pop Ballads, a project that has been supported by the talented Cuban musician David Calzado (director of Charanga Habanera) and has enjoyed the ongoing collaboration of the distinguished composer Osmany Espinosa.
Mayco has been one of the most active performers, offering his support to the fight against HIV/AIDS in many of his performances. Although his career is still very young, it has already afforded him wonderful opportunities, such as sharing the stage with important figures in Cuban culture, such as Rosita Fornés, Omara Portuondo, the Charanga Habanera, and the young singer Yolie, among others. He has also had the privilege of being accompanied by the ICRT de Cuba orchestra for his cover of Pablo Milanés’s famous song, “Para Vivir.”
Although he doesn’t have a discography yet, Mayco D’Alma is currently promoting his first demo as a soloist, which already has his first video clip, Si tú vueltoras, which was photographed by Alejandro Pérez and directed by Yusnel Suaréz.
