13.20.8 Michel Portela


Michel Portela, a prominent Cuban troubadour, was born in the city of Santa Clara, Villa Clara province. The renowned singer-songwriter is a member of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) and the ACDAM (Association of Hermanos Saíz). He is also one of the most active members of the Santa Clara-based Trovuntivitis movement, which has its venue in the El Mejunje Cultural Center in Santa Clara and where he performs regularly.

He has given concerts in various cultural centers across the country. One of his most acclaimed performances was in May of this year at the A Guitarra Limpia event organized by the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Center in its Patio de las Yagrumas, where the audience was able to enjoy his songs filled with thought-provoking messages.

Michel Portela’s discography includes the CD “La voz del Diablo Ilustrado,” on which he performs the song “Tu príncipe azul,” and the compilation album, on which he performs the opening track of his own work, “La rapadura.” Both albums were produced by EGREM in collaboration with the Hermanos Saíz Association.

In the case of Raspadura con Ajonjolí, it was released in 2007 at the Pabellón Cuba (23rd Street corner N, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana). This album contains fifteen tracks sung by an equal number of young troubadours from different provinces across the country, and it showcases different styles of Cuban trova. The artist is currently part of the musical catalog of the Rafael Prats Music Center.
