13.24 Rock in Cuban Music in the 20th Century (2000-2011).

During this period in Cuban music, rock enjoyed a boom, gaining popularity among the masses. Around this time, rock bands such as Los Kents resurfaced, returning to the stage in 2000, and Dimensión Vertical in 2002.
New venues were also created in the provinces for music lovers to showcase their music, led by the Hermanos Saiz Association. These include the festivals in the provinces of Pinar del Río and Holguín.
Although the well-known Patio de María closed in 2004, other rock venues are emerging, such as La Tropical’s El Salón Rosado, venues in hotels, and others.
Metal bands of this time include Rice and Beans, Hipnosis, Médula, Chlover, Escape and others.
Numerous rock festivals are held in different provinces across the country. Some of these include Caimán Rock, held in Havana every two years, and Ciudad Junto al Mar in Cienfuegos.
Rock music is shown in the mass media. Today, there are television music programs dedicated to the genre, such as Cuerda Viva, in which the public can observe the work of Cuba’s leading rock bands.
An agency has been created to protect rock performers in Cuba, the Cuban Rock Agency, founded by the Hermanos Saíz Association and subordinated to the Cuban Music Institute.
Books have also been written on the subject, one of which is El Rock en Cuba (Rock in Cuba) by Humberto Manduley and published by Editorial Atril. The author was the lyricist for several songs by the renowned band Venus and is a critic and promoter of rock music made in our country. The book is comprised of eight chapters and covers a period from 1956 to the present day.
Among the current exponents of Cuban music we find Odisea, Hipnosis, Zeus, Chlover, C-Men, Feed Back, Gens, Agonizer, Combat Noise, Kill the Fish, Escape, Tendencia, Médula, Demencia, Saxum, Porno para Ricardo, Sociedad Havana Blues, and many others.
