13.25.1 Hypnosis

Hipnosis, a Cuban rock band, was founded in 2001 by musicians with diverse musical influences. Its name is easy to understand for listeners of different languages and because it embodies the aim of achieving a kind of hypnotism through their performances, where they combine excellent stagecraft with harmonious chords that fuse different strands of rock, such as gothic metal, death metal, and heavy metal, among others. Its young members, always with diverse musical influences, have undergone several changes since its inception.
In its beginnings, the band was made up of guitarists Yumileysi Torres Batista, Aty González Guerrero and Antonio Pérez Quesada (Lead Guitar), drummers Reynaldo Pared and Eduardo Longa Aguilar and keyboardists Indira Bettina Díaz Biart and Glencys Toro García.
Its current members include lead singer and guitarist Giovany Milhet Valera, guitarist Raymond D. Soler, Alain Candia González as drummer, keyboardist Indira Bettina Díaz Biart, Katia Fernández González and Maylín Ruiz Yip as choir singers, and its director, bassist Fanny Tachín Orizondo.
Since its founding, Hipnosis has won several awards, including the Cuerda Viva Awards, which they have won for best band for several years, Best New Band in 2002, and the First Cuerda Viva Award that same year.
They are one of the best-known metal bands in Cuba, not only for their revolutionary format, but also for the appeal of each of their stage performances, offering a display of harmony in terms of lighting design, costumes, and performance. In 2003, they won the Cuerda Viva Award for Best New Band of the Year. In July of that same year, they participated in the Caimán Rock International Festival.
The guys from Hipnosis were nominated for the 2004 Cubadisco Awards for Best Rock Album and Best New Album with their debut album, “The Chosen One.” The video of the same name accompanied the promotional campaign for this CD. With this same album, they earned nine nominations for the 2006 Lucas Awards and won four of them, making it one of the most nominated videos.
At Cubadisco 2005, they were nominated in the categories of First Work and Rock. At the ninth edition of the festival, they won another award for Cuerda Viva in the category of Best Hard Rock CD.
Hipnosis was part of a project organized by several rock groups in the country in homage to Noel Nicola with a cover of the song “Cuba va,” originally by the Grupo de Experimentación Sonora del ICAIC (GESI), featuring Pablo Menéndez (Mezcla), Dionisio Arce (Zeus), Roberto Perdomo and Beatrix López (Tesis de Menta), Reinier Aldana (Mate), Aurora de los Andes Feliú, and Dagoberto Pedraja. A music video was made for this song, directed by Santana.
