13.25 Exponents of Rock in Cuban Music in the 20th Century (2000-2011).

Numerous rock bands have emerged during this era. They are guiding the genre in the country and, through their concerts, both in Cuba and abroad, bringing it to the international music scene, highlighting what’s happening in rock today with high-quality performances.

Among the most notable artists are Hipnosis and Tesis de Menta. Hipnosis was founded in 2001 by musicians with diverse musical influences. Since its founding, Hipnosis has won several awards, including the Cuerda Viva Awards, which have won them Best Band for several years, Best New Band in 2002, and the First Cuerda Viva Award that same year.

They are one of the best-known metal bands in Cuba, not only for their revolutionary format, but also for the appeal of each of their stage performances, offering a display of harmony in terms of lighting design, costumes, and performance.

The boys from Hipnosis were nominated for Best Rock Album and Best New Album at Cubadisco 2004 with their debut album, “The Chosen One.” At Cubadisco 2005, they were nominated in the First Work and Rock categories. At the ninth edition of the festival, they were again honored for Cuerda Viva in the Best Hard Rock CD category.

Tesis de Menta, founded by singer-songwriter Roberto Perdomo on November 3, 2003, performed throughout the country, attracting increasing attention from both the public and specialists. They managed to independently record their first phonographic materials with new sounds within contemporary Cuban music, with a creative capacity that allowed them to create their own signature. The demos “Antes de empezar,” “Contra la pared,” “De mí,” and “Sandra Partes” are examples where they marked their distancing themselves from the most extreme tendencies of Cuban metal.

They have been invited to participate in numerous concerts, sharing the stage with prominent bands both in Cuba and other Latin American countries. They have already received various accolades, including awards from the programs Cuerda Viva and Sabarock, and several nominations at the “Lucas” Cuban music video festival.

The undeniable quality of Tesis de Menta and a sound that has placed them internationally known as adult-oriented rock (AOR) have placed the band in a prominent place in Cuban culture. The band is affiliated with the Hermanos Saínz Association (AHS) and is listed in the Cuban Rock Agency.
