13.4.5 Guantánamo Guitar Ensemble

The Guantánamo Guitar Ensemble was founded in February 2005 in Guantánamo by concert guitarist Brian Hui, who has served as its director ever since.

This group’s debut, or first performance, took place at the UNEAC’s La Celosía Hall. It is made up of twelve members, including students and guitar teachers from the Guantánamo Province High School Conservatory.

Their repertoire includes works such as Inventions for Three Voices No. 8 and No. 10 by J.S. Bach; Quirino con su Tres and Songorocosongo by Emilio Grenet; Vals Choro by F. Kleynjans; and Leyenda de España by A. Barrios, among others.

In January 2007, this guitar ensemble offered a tribute concert to Danny Rivera at UNEAC’s Sala la Celosía. The following month, in February, they performed alongside Puerto Rican guitarist José Antonio López.

Since its creation, the Guantánamo Guitar Ensemble has performed at significant local events, such as the International Book Fair, the Pepe Gallart Winter Concert Day, and the Guantanamera Festival.

He has also participated in opening ceremonies and award ceremonies at important events held both nationally and provincially.
