11.2.8 Cuban Music Research and Development Center.


The Center for Research and Development of Cuban Music (CIDMUC) (Calle G No. 505 between 21 and 23, Vedado, Havana) was founded on December 26, 1978. It was a scientific and technical entity linked to the Ministry of Culture.

The Center for Research and Development of Cuban Music (Calle G No. 505 between 21 and 23, Vedado, Havana) concentrates and groups research in the field of Cuban music.

This center (CIDMUC) (Calle G No. 505 between 21 and 23, Vedado, Havana City) was created with the vital and faithful purpose of promoting and encouraging knowledge, research, development and general information concerning Cuban music.

The work undertaken is based on and takes into account the different cultural origins that have shaped Cuban music, as well as the exchanges and relationships it has had with the artistic expressions of other nations.

The CIDMUC (Calle G No. 505 between 21 and 23, Vedado, Havana City) is made up of three departments for better organization of work and with the objective of obtaining better results:

v Information and documentation department.

The latter is where a wealth of information on Cuban music is collected, as well as other related subjects, including ethnology, folklore, music therapy, sociology, historiography, among others.

The center organizes nationally and internationally renowned musicological events. Its Fernando Ortiz Hall hosts conferences and meetings related to musicology, showcasing the latest works and discoveries.
