11.10.7 Santiago Children’s Choir

The Santiago Children’s Choir is a school choral group founded by maestro Electo Silva more than three decades ago in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba. Since then, it has been under the tutelage and guidance of the same maestro.
This choir is made up of approximately 45 children, ranging in age from nine to ten. Its director works primarily to develop skills, particularly with regard to two important elements: the child’s voice and hearing.
The Santiago Children’s Choir’s repertoire includes numerous songs from the traditional children’s collection, as well as songs by contemporary composers. These pieces are performed by these children in a variety of ways; they can be performed vocally, a cappella, or accompanied by musical instruments.
They have participated and brought their music to countless political, cultural, and cultural events, both in their province and throughout the country. These include the evenings in remembrance of our national hero José Martí and the Santiago de Cuba International Choir Festival, among many others. They also regularly perform in choirs for Children’s Day, April 4th, and other children’s celebrations.
The Santiago Children’s Choir has received numerous awards in Cuba and abroad for its high-quality performance. It is a choral institution that contributes daily to the development of Cuban music, training many of the best voices in that Cuban city, and thus serving as a source for new generations of musicians and Cuban choral music.
