12.4.5 Arisnubia Martínez Lores (La Fres-K)


Arisnubia Martínez Lores, popularly known as La Fres-K, is a prominent Cuban rapper born in 1980 in the eastern province of Guantánamo. She was only fourteen years old when she released her first song. Beginning in 1999, she became known for her performances on various stages across Cuba.

She received an award at the Havana National Festival in 2000, and has been performing in Spain with great success since 2003. Her first album, Simplemente Fres-K, was a resounding success. The album was recorded between Madrid and Havana and mastered in New York.

Simply Fres-K features songs such as “Don’t Be Disappointed,” “Fres-K Steps Strong,” “Change of Profession,” “Guerra Woman,” “I Can’t Choose,” “I Carry You in My Heart,” and “Fres-K Inside and Out,” among others. He also recorded a track with Cuban tres player Eliades Ochoa, which harmonized and combined son and hip-hop.

Arisnubia Martínez, known as La Fres-K, is one of the most vibrant examples of the Cuban hip-hop scene. Her Caribbean-accented rap with a tough, provocative rhyme makes her one of the genre’s most celebrated female artists. Also known as La Diva Rapera del Caribe (The Rap Diva of the Caribbean), this young woman is part of the stellar cast of the 2007 Cuban Super Reggaeton Album.
