Heidi Igualada, Cuban composer and singer-songwriter, was born on April 9, 1964, in Havana. She completed her elementary musical studies, specializing in guitar, at the Ignacio Cervantes Professional Development Center and also graduated from high school, specializing in singing, at the Félix Varela Provincial Development Center (Patrocinio No. 53 between Poey and Heredia, 10 de Octubre, Havana).
He began composing in 1986. He maintains a repertoire of songs based primarily on his own works, framed within the trends of new song. He prefers intimate and political songs with a highly lyrical approach, although he has also explored ballads, boleros, guajiras, and traditional Cuban trova, consistently maintaining a personal style and a contemporary approach.
In 1987, she joined the “Hermanos Saíz” Association (National Address: Pabellón Cuba, Calle 23 e/ N y M, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana); and throughout her artistic career, she has composed music for theater. She has worked as a musical advisor for the National Council of Performing Arts and is a member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) (Calle 17 e/ Gy H, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana) and the SGAE. She also belongs to the National Center for Concert Music (Calzada y D, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana).
Among her most representative performances are in 1995: Concert After This at the Palace of Fine Arts (Trocadero Street between Zulueta and Monserrate, Old Havana, Havana); 1997: Concert Women at Home at the Ernesto Guevara Hall in the Casa de las Américas (3rd and G Streets, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana), within the framework of the XIV Youth and Students Festival; also in that year she performed the Concert As One Voice with Sara González, Anabell López, and Marta Campos at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater (Paseo and 39th Streets, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana).
In 1998, she participated in, among other events, the Concert for Guatemala at the Ernesto Guevara Hall of the Casa de las Américas (3rd and G Streets, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana); the Tribute Concert to Tina Modotti at the inauguration of the Tina Modotti Photo Exhibition at the Mella Theater (Line No. 657, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana); and the Opening Concert of the Cuba and Puerto Rico Are… Meeting at the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Cultural Center (63 de la Muralla Street between Oficios and Inquisidor Streets, Old Havana, Havana).
In 1999, Heidi Igualada performed in several concerts, including the Cuerda Joven concert at the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Cultural Center (63 Muralla Street between Oficios and Inquisidor, Old Havana, Havana); the presentation of the CD Vamos todos a cantar at the Guevara Hall of the Casa de las Américas (3rd and G Streets, Vedado, Revolution Square, Havana); and in 2000, she participated in the concerts Tribute to the ICAIC Sound Experimentation Group at the Chaplin Hall (1212 23rd Street, Vedado, Revolution Square, Havana) and in Volver a nacer at the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Cultural Center (63 Muralla Street between Oficios and Inquisidor, Old Havana, Havana). That same year, she toured the central provinces with troubadour Jorge García.
In 2001, he offered the Concert, In Complicity, at the Caturla Hall of the Amadeo Roldán Theater (Calzada and D, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución. Havana) and in 2002 he participated in several concerts such as: Concert By Chance at the Theater of the National Museum of Fine Arts (Trocadero Street between Zulueta and Monserrate, Old Havana. Havana); Tribute Concert to Carlos Cano at the Avellaneda Hall National Theater (Paseo and 39, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución. Havana), with Pablo Milanés, Marta Campos, Reinier Mariño, Javier Ruibal and Clara Montes; Concert Suite To my Brothers with texts by José Martí and Orchestration Valter Sivilotti with the Camaguey Symphony Orchestra.
In 2003, he gave the Slow Concert at the Casa de las Américas (3rd and G Streets, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana) and the presentation of the CD “Serenata” at the Theater of the National Museum of Fine Arts (Trocadero Street between Zulueta and Monserrate Streets, Old Havana, Havana). In 2006, he participated in the Tribute Concerts to Sindo Garay, the Cantata for the Homeland, and the 60th birthday of the troubadour Silvio Rodríguez. In 2007, he was part of the cast of the 1st Necessary Song gathering with Vicente Feliú, Eduardo Sosa, Pancho Villa (Chile), and Daniel Viglietti (Uruguay) at the Casa de las Américas (3rd and G Streets, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana) and the Anti-Imperialist Tribune of Havana.
Troubadour Heidi Igualada has performed on various international stages, including Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Venezuela, Spain, and Italy. She is the author of songs such as Bolero, Cuando me mece la altura, and Serenata, in which she cultivates different genres of Cuban song tradition.
Among the festivals and events that have featured her, both nationally and internationally, are: the Nueva Trova Festival (1988, 1989, 1990); the Days of Music Singer-Songwriter Festival (1993, 1994); the Vive International Youth Festival; the 14th International Festival of Youth and Students; the Havana International Theater Festival (1995 and 1997); the International Colloquium on 20th Century Women; the Ibero-American Romerías de Mayo Event (1994 and 1997); the Songs of the Rose and the Thorn Season (1997); the 1st Meeting of Cuban and Guatemalan Singer-Songwriters (1998); the Cuba-Puerto Rico Meeting; the 2nd Identity Biennial; the Cuban Culture Day in Nicaragua; and the Adolfo Guzmán Cuban Music Competition (2000, 2002, 2007). Camagüey Contemporary Music Festival 2002; Bolivarian-Martian Festival (2002); 7th Cubadisco International Record Fair 2003; Longina Festival (2007) and 1st Meeting of The Necessary Song (2007).
Igualada has received numerous awards, including: the National Museum of Fine Arts Award (Trocadero Street between Zulueta and Monserrate, Old Havana, Havana); the National Center for Concert Music Award (Calzada and D, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana); the Progreso Radio Station Award (Calzada Infanta No. 105, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana); Mention in the Adolfo Guzmán Cuban Music Competition (2000); 2nd Prize in the Adolfo Guzmán Cuban Music Competition (2007); Nomination of the CD SERENATA in the Song and First Work categories at the 7th International Record Fair Cubadisco 2003; the A Song for Pablo Competition and 4th Prize for Song: Hay palabras, sponsored by the Pablo Center (63 Muralla Street between Oficios and Inquisidor, Old Havana, Havana) (2006).
Among his solo albums are: Serenata (2002) with the Unicornio label of the Abdala SA studios (Calle 32 No. 318, Miramar, Playa. Havana) and En la línea de mi mano (2007) with the Colibrí label, also belonging to the Abdala studios (Calle 32 No. 318, Miramar, Playa. Havana).

Throughout her career, Heidi Igualada has shared the stage with important artists, including Marta Valdés, Luis Enrique Mejía Godoy, Sara González, Anabel López, Marta Campos, Rita del Prado, Jorge García, Gerardo Alfonso, Lázara Ribadavia, Ariel Díaz and the ISA String Quartet (1110 120th Street between 9th and 13th Streets, Cubanacán, Playa, Havana).
In 2010, she concluded the summer season of the Trovarte club with a poetry and music festival at its Pabellón Cuba venue (23rd Street between N and M, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana). Along with the renowned artist, other performers included singer-songwriters Diego Cano, Fernando Bécquer, Rodney Howard, Pedo Beritán, Yolo Bonilla, Mauricio Figueiral, Adrián Berazain, and Ray Fernández, among others.
Heidi Igualada’s poetry is clearly characterized, like a poetry that stumbles upon everyday tenderness. Her guitar, discreet but present, leads us by the hand to her voice, which takes us soaring and fills the entire scene. It’s a delight for the soul to absorb this troubadour in concert.
