Alberto Herrera, a distinguished Cuban flutist and orchestra conductor, was born in April 1970 in Palma Soriano, Santiago de Cuba province. Coming from a family of musicians, he began his musical training at the age of ten at the Esteban Salas Conservatory in his hometown. There he specialized in flute.
Before completing his musical studies, Alberto was already developing his artistic career as a musician in the Concert Band. He later joined the Charanga Tunera as a flutist. Later, he joined the Rítmicos de Palma band, a group with which he participated in several music festivals and recorded two albums.
Throughout his professional career, Alberto Herrera has been part of other Cuban groups, such as Sones de Oriente, with whom he recorded a CD. He has also shared the stage with prominent figures, most notably accompanying singer Magalis Bernal on his instrument. He has worked with Las Hermanas Ferrin, Adalberto Avila Candela, and Eliades Ochoa’s Cuarteto Patria.
Added to that list are his guest appearances on several concerts with Sur Caribe. He plays jazz with Peruchin at the well-known nightclub La Zorra y el Cuervo (155 Calle 23, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana). He has also been the featured artist on songs with Michael Blanco and his Suprema Ley.
In addition to the names mentioned above, there is also that of Oderquis Revé and his Changüí, an orchestra of which Herrera was a member.
Today, Alberto Herrera is working with his Charanga Cubana (Cuban Charanga). Their repertoire includes songs of his own.
