Sergio Farías is a renowned singer and composer, a cultural figure in Regla. He was born on August 17, 1955, in the overseas municipality of Regla, Havana City. From a very young age, he enjoyed singing, performing at family gatherings and with his sister in their own home.

He graduated from the Higher Institute of Art of Cuba (ISA) (Calle 120 No. 1110 between 9th and 13th, Cubanacán, Playa, Havana) with a singing specialty. In 1979, he began his professional career on the program “Todo el Mundo Canta.” On this program, he received first place and the Popularity Award for his performance of the song “Venecia sin ti.” From this moment on, he began his professional career, achieving national and international success. He also received the “Girasol de la Popularidad” (Sunflower of Popularity) from the OPINA Weekly for four consecutive years, an award granted by the Cuban people through a survey, and thus managed to place himself among the top three most popular solo singers in the country.

In 1980, he participated in the “Adolfo Guzmán” Competition, where he received the Grand Prize in the Provincial Guzmán Award and second place in the National Performance Award. That same year, he ventured into adventure series and soap operas on Cuban television. During the 1980s, he traveled to countries such as Poland, Mexico, Germany, Russia, and Portugal.

Between 1982 and 1986, she recorded three LPs and one 45-reel. In 1988, she won the “Reyna Karolinka” Grand Prix at the “Man and the Sea” festival in Rostok, Germany, for the best performance, competing against 28 other countries.

In the 1990s, she returned to Mexico for a tour and traveled to Ecuador, Venezuela, and Spain. She joined the vocals of renowned singers such as Omara Portuondo, Beatriz Márquez, and Maria Antonieta, and has also recorded immortal duets with figures such as Barbarito Diez.

From 1999 to 2000, he toured Mexico, performing on various stages and television programs, sharing with renowned singers such as José José, D’Blassio, Manzanero, and Andy Montañez.

Upon returning to Cuba, Farías was hired by a Spanish-Mexican cruise line, sailing between Havana and Cancún for six months.

His discography includes the ballad album “Mi Identidad,” for which he composed all the tracks. In 2003, he recorded his second album, “Canciones de Mi Vida,” with the record label EGREM. This album features a selection of boleros by internationally renowned Cuban composers such as César Portillo de la Luz, Carlos Puebla, Amaury Pérez, and Fernando Mulens, as well as boleros such as “Quiero hablar contigo” and “Hacerte venir,” which feature guest appearances by Pancho Céspedes and César Portillo de la Luz. He was nominated for the 2004 EGREM Award for this album.

Sergio Farías has participated in various celebrations in his hometown of Regla, in various activities held in Regla Park, at the Artistic and Literary Lyceum of Regla (Máximo Gómez No. 153 between Ambron and La Piedra, Regla, Havana), and at the “Roberto Faz” Cultural Center (Martí No. 212, Regla, Havana). He is a member of the UNEAC (National Association of Associations of Music) and currently serves on the jury of the “Roberto Faz” National Popular Music Interpretation Competition. He has also performed in cabarets in Varadero and Havana, such as “Gato Tuerto” (Calle O and 17, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana), among others.

From his own compositions, we have heard titles such as: “Forgive me my love”, “My Identity”, “Love broke”, “Whenever I leave”, “If it’s not me, who is it”, “Walk love”, “To love or to be loved”.

His awards include: the 1989 “300th Anniversary” Medal and the “Jornada Cucalambiana” Medal; the 1991 “Distinguished Worker” Seal from the Provincial Music Center; and the 1993 National Vanguard “Cultural Worker” Award. Recognition for being among the country’s leading singers of romantic music.

Sergio Farías possesses a melodious voice and a very personal style that distinguish him; he is included in the Adolfo Guzmán Company’s Excellence Award catalog. A wealth of talent, professional rigor, and popularity continue to be the qualities of this singer, who has earned the respect and admiration not only of his hometown but also of several countries where he has left the memory of his voice, baptized in song.
