12.19.26 Pedro Lugo Martínez (El Nene)

Pedro Lugo Martínez, popularly known as El Nene, is a prominent Cuban son performer; he was born in Havana. He sang at family gatherings from a young age, and by the age of fourteen he was already playing percussion very well.
He began his musical career with Conjunto Chapotin, where he worked for five years. He later formed other groups such as Conjunto Rumba Clave y Guaguancó, and Conjunto Cubava.
While a member of the septet Jóvenes Clásicos del Son, where he served as lead vocalist since 1995, Lugo began to gain recognition in Cuban music.
He founded his own orchestra, El Son del Nene, in 2006.
He performed alongside Las Estrellas de Areíto in a tribute to Faustino Oramas, El Guayabero, with the album Cuidado con el perro (Beware of the Dog). Among the songs featured in the album are Como baila Marieta (How Marieta Dances), Oye el Consejo (Hear the Advice), Mañana me voy (Tomorrow I’m Going), and Cuidado con el perro (Beware of the Dog).
In May 2011, Pedro Lugo Martínez performed in Bayamo as part of his national tour. During the tour, he was accompanied by a group of young professionals and promoted his album, Mi Deseo, which consists mostly of sonera pieces.
My Wish, released under the EGREM label, includes a CD and a DVD. It includes twelve tracks, one of which is “Sé feliz” by Descemer Bueno. The album was produced and directed by Emilio Vega.
In addition to Son, his repertoire as a singer includes other musical genres such as Trova.
Pedro Lugo Martínez has shared the stage with leading figures in music, including Pablo Milanés. He has also participated in events such as the Polle Polle Festival, held throughout Europe, where he sang alongside Luis Alberto (El Canario).
