12.20.13 Cándido Fabré and his Band

Cándido Fabré y su Banda, a group founded by the excellent Cuban musician Cándido Fabré in 1993. Fabré brought together some of the best Cuban musicians and was made up of musicians from the Veguitas and Bayamo areas.

In 1994, Cándido Fabré’s band performed at the Caribbean Festival in Colombia, where it was nicknamed “El Caracol del Caribe” (The Snail of the Caribbean). Its director described this performance as the band’s debut abroad.

Cándido Fabré and his band have toured extensively internationally, earning significant recognition, appearing on major stages in most Latin American countries, as well as in many European nations.

The Fabré Band’s repertoire is extensive, combining the most vibrant traditional Cuban rhythms from the eastern region. It features songs written by Cándido, many of which have become classics.

The Fabré Band’s performances are characterized by being long and lasting until dawn, playing and singing, which has become a custom for all those who come to the country’s squares and stages.

The orchestra’s record production has been handled by the record labels EGREM (1008 3rd Street between 10th and 12th, Miramar, Playa, Havana) and Tumi Music, with a total of five albums, including songs such as: Fabré Arrived, El Apagón, La Habana Wants to Guaracha with You, and La Fórmula, among others.

In 2010, Cándido and his band performed at the Contramaestre Carnival, where they gave a luxurious concert that will forever be remembered by their fans. In November of that same year, they traveled to the United States for their first tour in the nation, aiming to bring Cuban culture and music to the nation. The first performance took place at the Casablanca Banquet Hall in West Palm Beach, and the second in Miami Aché. They subsequently toured other North American cities with notable success. During their stay, they also appeared on various television programs such as “Pellízcame que estoy soñando.”

Among the new projects of Cándido Fabré and his band for 2011 is the preparation of a new album, which will be composed of numerous songs that reflect the Cuban national context, one of which is titled “Van Van is not anyone.”

Cándido y su Banda, as evidenced by their plans for the near future, is a group that will continue to strive to remain a favorite with the public and continue to elevate the quality of Cuban music.
