13.4.2 Duo D’Accord

Dúo D’Accord, founded in 2002, is comprised of clarinetist Vicente Monterrey and pianist María de los Ángeles Rodríguez, both members of the National Center for Concert Music. Both members of the duo boast high technical and interpretive virtuosity and have extensive experience as soloists and chamber musicians in other formats.

The D’Accord Duo’s repertoire encompasses all the universal works available for this format. It also includes pieces by Cuban composers from various eras and up to the present. They perform original works, covers, and transcriptions made especially for this format. The clarinetist’s ability to play all types of clarinets expands their repertoire.

They have performed in numerous venues, an example of which is the presentation they made at the Minor Basilica of the Convent of San Francisco de Asís (Offices between Amargura and Churruca, Old Havana, Havana), where they had as guests the cellist Maylín Sevila and Pablo Ordás with the Peruvian cajón.

They performed a luxurious program with works such as Ludwig van Beethoven’s Trio, Opus 11, for clarinet, cello, and piano; Robert Schumann’s Three Fantastic Pieces, Opus 73, for clarinet and piano; and Carlos Guastavino’s Sonata. Also present were pieces by Astor Piazzolla, such as the Milonga del Ángel, for piano and cajón.

In the Dolores Concert Hall, located in the province of Santiago de Cuba (Aguilera y Reloj Street, Santiago de Cuba), they exhibited works such as “Dúo Concertante” by Darius Milhaud; Suite Hebraique by Srul Irving Glick Cantorial; Aria de la Flor from the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet; Song for a Clarinetist and Prelude No. by Javier Zalva; the Ballad of Adolescent Love by José María Vitier and Allegro de Sonata by Andrés Allen, among others.

In 2006, they gave a concert at the Minor Basilica of the Convent of San Francisco de Asís (Offices between Amargura and Churruca, Old Havana, Havana), for the 58th anniversary of CMBF, National Musical Radio and as part of the Cuban commemorations of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Among the guests were guitarist Luis Manuel Molina, soprano Lucy Provedo, the Amadeo Roldán Quartet, oboist María Magdalena Valdés, clarinetist Dianelys Castillo, and bassoonist Abraham Castillo.

In April 2011, they performed in concert at the well-known venue of the Minor Basilica of the Convent of San Francisco de Asís (Oficios e/ Amargura y Churruca, Old Havana, Havana). They shared the stage with a duo consisting of saxophonist Javier Zalba and pianist María del Henar. Their program included 20th-century French, Italian, and Cuban music.

His 2008 album, “Tardé en La Habana,” was recorded at Abdala Studios under the Colibrí label. It compiles all the significant music written for this format to date. It was nominated for the 2010 Cubadisco Festival.

The D’accord Duo has appeared on other albums, such as J. López Marín’s Chamber Music in 2004, and the album Cuba y Puerto Rico, about the chamber music of these two nations, in 2000.
