13.7.2 Vocal Camerata Golden Music

Camerata Vocal Música Áurea, a Cuban choral group, founded on February 9, 2002, in the birthplace of poet José María Heredia y Heredia (Heredia Street, Santiago de Cuba), in Santiago de Cuba, by Delvis Sánchez Suárez, who has served as its director since its founding.
Música Áurea is a mixed group, made up of 17 members, including singers and its director.
Their repertoire includes choral music from a variety of musical styles, from the Renaissance with Spanish, French, English, and Italian Renaissance polyphony, German lied, and even modernity. It also includes works by Cuban composers.
Among the composers this group performs are Cuban composers Esteban Salas, Alejandro García Caturla, Electo Silva, Beatriz Corona, Harold Gramatges, Roberto Valera, Guido López Gavilán, Calixto Álvarez, and Octavio Marín, among others. Also notable are foreign composers such as Franz Peter Schubert, Oliver Messiaen, Maurice Ravel, Félix Mendelssohn, Johann Sebastian Bach, Josquin des Prés, Thomas Luis de Victoria, and Claudio Monteverde.
On February 18, 2006, in honor of the bicentennial of Mozart’s birth, they premiered the Requiem by this important composer in a performance.
Since its founding, the Música Áurea Vocal Camerata has performed on numerous stages and at national events and festivals. These include the Concert for the 450th Anniversary of the City of Santiago de Cuba in 2005; the Cultural Gala “Mi Santiago” (My Santiago) for the 8th Anniversary of the granting of the City Title in 2005; and several editions of the Santiago de Cuba International Choir Festival in 2003, 2005, and 2007. They performed in concert at the Matamoros Son International Festival on October 18, 2006. They also performed at the 5th Esteban Salas Early Music Festival in 2007.
