13.8.1 Sandra Santos González

Sandra Santos González is a distinguished Cuban singer and choral director. She graduated from the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory (Calle Rastro No. 1, Old Havana, Havana) with a high school diploma in choral conducting. From 2000 to 2004, she served as soloist and director of the children’s choir of the Pax Dei Ecumenical Choir, which enjoyed a pleasant presence at the Amadeo Roldán Auditorium Theater (Calzada y D, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana).
For approximately three years, she served as Choir Director and Choral Singing Professor at the Manuel Saumell Conservatory (660 F Street, Vedado, Havana). During that time, she participated with the school’s Selective Choir in the “Cantorías” event in 2003 and 2004.
Sandra Santos founded the “Ensemble Vocal Luna” Choir, directed by Sonia McCormack in 2002, a position she currently holds. She has performed countless concerts with this group and participated in several Early Music Festivals with the “Ars Longa” Early Music Ensemble.
In 2007, she founded the “Lunitas” Children’s Choir, a project exclusively for girls that has performed in various theaters and concert halls across the country since then.
In 2008, together with the Ars Longa Early Music Ensemble, she participated in the recording of the CD “Pedro Bermúdez, Music in the Cathedral of Guatemala, 16th Century.” That same year, she participated in the Havana Habaneras Festival, an event where she won First and Grand Prizes. Sandra Santos participates as a singer with Vocal Luna in the D’ Canto Festival, held annually on the Margarita Islands in Venezuela. She won First Prize at that event.
In February 2010, Sandra Santos took part in the historic first staging of Handel’s Oratorio Messiah. With the Vocal Luna ensemble, she has appeared at contemporary music festivals and on numerous international tours.
