13.12.2 Latin Explosion

Explosión Latina, a prominent Cuban group, directed by Michel Valdés. This project champions high artistic values and high-quality musical standards.
The group offers a blend of music and cultural interests, which undoubtedly revives old harmonies intertwined with traditional Cuban music and the new Salsa. This gives Explosión Latina an incredible and beloved connection between what was then and what is now.
The band’s director began as part of Cuba’s Amateur Artists Movement and debuted in 2000 with the then-young group at La Piragua, undoubtedly one of the most popular dance venues on the island. Since then, hits have continued to fall in the hands of this talented young man and his fine-tuned group.
The repertoire of this Cuban orchestra features original compositions of excellent craftsmanship and includes both the group’s own songs and world-renowned Cuban works by renowned Cuban composers such as Pablo Milanés, Cesar Portillo de la Luz, Arsenio Rodríguez, and Polo Montañez.
For their outstanding musical work, the group has received several awards. They won the “Son de Cristal” event representing the Cuban capital; for two consecutive years, they were chosen to represent the Adolfo Guzmán Provincial Music Center. The orchestra has also been nominated for the Lucas Awards.
In 2009, Explosión Latina recorded an album at the PM Records Studios of renowned Cuban musician Pablo Milanés. Guest appearances on this CD included Alain León Cancio, Manuel Álvarez Candil, Griffitt López, Frank Padrón, Lázaro Valdés, Pablo Milanés, and others.
Explosión Latina has earned countless important accolades that place it at the forefront of Cuban music representation today.
