13.12.9 Havana D´Primera

Havana D’Primera, a Cuban popular dance music group, was founded in late 2007 by renowned trumpeter Alexander Abreu, who serves as its director, along with trombonist Amaury Pérez.
The orchestra is made up of 14 talented musicians. Among them are Toni Rodríguez (piano), Amaury Pérez (trombone), Rodney Iyarza Barreto (timpani), Guillermo Varela del Toro (percussion), Luis Enrique Pérez Prieto (backing vocals), Harold Díaz Escobar (keyboardist), Miguel Ruiz García (bongo drum), Carlos Álvarez Guerra (trombone), Yuliesky González Guerra (trombone), and Rogelio Collazo Nápoles (guitar).
“Haciendo historia,” produced by EGREM in 2009, is the title of Havana D’Primera’s debut album. The lyrics are written by Abreu.
This album was nominated for the 2010 CUBADISCO Awards in categories such as First Work and Popular Dance Music. It also won the top prize in a 2009 online poll, and the track “After a Kiss” was selected as the best of the year in France.
Despite its short history within Cuban culture, Havana D’Primera already holds a prominent place within it, and with each performance it makes on both Cuban and foreign stages, it contributes to the development, dissemination, and preservation of the high level and renown that Cuban music boasts today.
