13.20.3 Silvio Alejandro Rodríguez.

Silvio Alejandro Rodríguez is a prominent Cuban troubadour with an extensive artistic career. He was born on November 4, 1974, and trained as a self-taught artist. Around 1993, he began writing his first songs and has since become increasingly involved in the world of Cuban music, especially trova. Although his name and career overlap with those of the prominent Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, we are not talking about the same person, nor are the two artists related.

In March of 1999, he participated in the Music Bridge event at the Karl Marx Theater (1010 1st Ave., Miramar, Playa, Havana) in Havana. American artists Billy Joel, Joan Osborne, Gladys Knight, Peter Frampton, and Mick Fleetwood participated in the event, all with the goal of demonstrating the possibility of strengthening friendly ties between the two nations.

Silvio Alejandro Rodríguez has toured internationally on numerous occasions, primarily in Europe and Latin America, with notable performances in cities such as Lima, Santiago de Chile, Quito, and Medellín. He has also visited Asia, specifically Tokyo, Japan. Between August 2004 and June 2005, he undertook a promotional tour of five South American countries, during which he recorded a video for the song “Tu canción” in Peru.

His work is reflected in the Clean Guitar Concert “La Impúdica es la Guitarra” (The Impudicity is the Guitar), released by the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Cultural Center, in Volume IV of the Anthology of Nueva Trova, published by the EGREM (Spanish Association of Musicians of the Spanish Association of Musicians of the Spanish Federation of Musicians of the Spanish Republic), and in the album Poems by Martí, which was set to music by some of the island’s finest troubadours and also produced and released by the EGREM (Spanish Association of Musicians of the Spanish Federation of Musicians of the Spanish Republic). He has been a member of the Hermanos Saíz Association since 1996. He has been a member of the National Center for Concert Music since 2001.

Silvio Alejandro Rodríguez has three albums under his belt, titled “Quedado en La Habana,” “Multitudes en la Silla,” and “Tanto Remar.” He currently shares the Tres Tazas space with musicians of various generations, visual artists, and other artists, which he hosts at the La Rampa movie theater (23rd Street between P and O, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, Havana).
