13.20.5 Adrián Berazaín Azcuy

Adrián Berazaín Azcuy, a prominent Cuban troubadour, was born in 1983 in Havana. He began his musical career very early, teaching himself and listening to figures and groups such as Silvio Rodríguez, The Beatles, Queen, Pablo Milanés, Benny Moré, Fito Páez, Joaquín Sabina, and also some Brazilian rock and New Orleans blues. His artistic beginnings began at the Vladimir I. Lenin Vocational Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences, where he was a member of the trova ensemble “Carpe Diem,” part of the amateur artists’ movement. During this time, he also belonged to a theater group, where he performed stand-up comedy written by his father, Antonio Berazaín.

In 2000, he became a member of the Hermanos Saíz Association. Two years later, until 2005, he organized and hosted the “La Séptima Cuerda” club with a group of friends who met monthly at the Rubén Martínez Villena Library (Obispo No. 59, Habana Vieja, Havana) in Old Havana, since at the time they had no place to play.

Adrián Berazaín participated in the FEU Amateur Artist Festivals, winning gold medals at various levels: university, provincial, and national.

In 2004, he recorded his first demo, titled “Escúchame de un portazo” (Listen to Me with a Slam). In January 2006, he performed his first solo concert at the Museo de Bellas Artes theater, titled “Cantar en el Tejado” (Singing on the Roof). There, he recorded his second demo of the same name. Later that year, he recorded another concert there, which eventually became his third demo, “Adrián Berazaín y Bajo techo” (Adrián Berazaín and Under the Roof).

He graduated with a degree in Information Design in 2007. That same year, he had the opportunity to participate in important international events such as FICCUA 2007 (5th Central American Interuniversity Festival of Culture and Art) in Managua, Nicaragua.

He has performed on various stages throughout the island and has had the honor of working with troubadours such as Frank Delgado, Liuba María Hevia, Vicente Feliú, David Torrens, Augusto Blanca, Ireno García, Wiliam Vivanco, Marta Campos, Erick Sánchez, Fernando Bécquer, Diego Cano, among others. He has also recorded songs with Diana Fuentes, Osdalgia, and Buena Fé.

Some of his work has been adapted for television, and his style has been heard in various audiovisual works. Examples include the soap opera “El balcón de los helechos,” the feature film “Jura decir la verdad,” and the short films “High Tech,” “Monte Rouge,” and “Photoshop.”

Adrián Berazaín’s talent has also been present at national events such as “Al sur de mi mochila” (South of My Backpack) held in Cienfuegos, “Longina” in Santa Clara, “Canción política” (Political Song) in Guantánamo, and at the “La tropa cósmica” (Cosmic Troop) gatherings held in the Cuban capital.
