13.29 Interactive. Musical Project on Cuban Music in the 20th Century (2000-2011)

Interactivo is a unique and talented Cuban musical project that enjoys great popularity among today’s Cuban youth. It emerged spontaneously in 2001, after Roberto Carcassés arranged the debut album by Yusa, a prominent Cuban instrumentalist and singer. The project transformed into one of the most innovative phenomena in Cuban music today, after the idea of recruiting other musicians flourished.
This project, led by Roberto Carcassés, is not a formally founded group, but rather a space for instrumentalists and vocalists who, individually, have established professional careers. Interactivo thus becomes a gateway to musical creativity, experimentation, and, in a way, a call for Cuban musicians to work more closely together. They perform traditional Cuban music fused with genres such as rock, jazz, rap, flamenco, and African rhythms.
Interactivo has been organized by a generation of young artists who have been very popular with the Cuban public; its most traditional performers have been Francis del Río, rapper Telmary Díaz, guitarist Elmer Ferrer, saxophonist Roberto Martínez, Yusa on bass, as well as William Vivanco and Kelvis Ochoa.
This prestigious Cuban musical project has shared the stage with prestigious national and international groups such as the Brazilian Lenine, Ojos de Brujo, Santiago Feliú, Gema Corredera, Pavel Urquiza, Descemer Bueno, Haydee Milanés, Kumar, Jorge Luis Chicoy, Ruy López-Nussa, Juan Carlos Marín, Samuel Formell, Mayito Rivera and César López.
Interactivo’s first CD, “Wanted,” was released in 2002. His second album, “Goza Pepillo,” was released by BisMusic and is, to date, the only one recorded by an officially recognized record label. It won the Grand Prize (shared with Chucho Valdés) at the 2006 Cubadisco International Fair, in addition to two other awards in the First Work and Fusion categories.
The 2010 album “Cubanos por el mundo” features Yusa, Kelvis Ochoa, Bobby Carcassés, and Oscar Valdés; its launch featured artists such as Melvis Santa, Haydée Milanés, X Alfonso, David Torrens, December Bueno, and the street theater group Gigantería.
