13.31 Temperament

Temperamento, a renowned Cuban jazz group, led by young Cuban musician Roberto Fonseca and founded by him together with saxophonist and flautist Javier Zalba in 1997. Its members also include Ramsés Rodríguez (drummer) and Omar González (double bassist).

During the celebrations for its fifteenth anniversary in September 2011, Temperamento gave a concert in the courtyard of the Cuban Art Building at the National Museum of Fine Arts (Trocadero Street between Zulueta and Monserrate Streets, Old Havana, Havana). The concert was titled “Fifteen Years and a New Sound.”

On that occasion, they performed songs such as Triste alegría (Sad Joy), Lento y despacio (Lento and Slowly), and Bulgaria, among others. Also on hand as guests were renowned Cuban instrumentalists such as Andrés Cuayo (percussion), Roberto García (trumpet), and Jorge Chicoy (guitar).

The documentary Temperamento, directed by Jorge Fuentes and produced by Francisco Álvarez, is based on jazz musician Roberto Fonseca and his group Temperamento. It features Fonseca performing a completely new song, a piece that was born in that moment.
