13.33 Peace Without Borders Concert

Peace Without Borders Concert, a major concert held in Havana’s Plaza de la Revolución on September 20, 2009. It was sponsored by the renowned Colombian singer-songwriter Fernán Martínez, better known as Juanes. The event lasted over four hours.
For this meeting he brought together relevant international music artists and Cuban musicians, among whom we can mention the singers Cucu Diamantes, Víctor Manuel, Danny Rivera, Miguel Bosé, Luis Eduardo Aute, Juan Fernando Velasco, Amaury Pérez, Silvio Rodríguez, Carlos Varela, X Alfonso and the famous orchestra Los Van Van.
Joining this list is Olga Tañón, a Puerto Rican artist popularly known as “La Mujer de Fuego,” who opened this grand concert, performing chart-topping songs. Also performing is Jovanotti, an Italian singer and songwriter considered a pioneer of rap and hip-hop in his country and one of the most prominent musicians of his generation. He performed two songs, “Penso Positivo” and “El Ombligo del Mundo.”
The group Yerba Buena also gave an excellent performance, performing “Alguien,” “El Burrito y Guajira,” and “I Love U 2 Much.” They closed their set with “La Candela.” Orishas, representatives of Cuban hip hop and winners of two Grammy Awards, performed songs that have become popular with Cuban youth and have appeared on the charts on the island and in Europe.
The Peace Without Borders Concert was followed live by millions of people in Cuba on national television, and also around the world, as it was televised to Europe, several Latin American countries, and the United States. It could also be followed live on the Juventud Rebelde website and on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.
Considered an absolutely historic event, this was the second Peace Without Borders Concert ever held. It culminated with a gigantic choir for peace featuring all the participating artists.
More than 1,150,000 Cubans attended the Peace Without Borders Concert, an unprecedented number for a show of its kind. It was the largest concert ever held in Cuba.
