Participants are selected pioneers who demonstrate outstanding singing skills, who advance to compete at the national level. The festival is competitive only in performance, for which it awards five prizes and three mentions.

The third edition of the “Cuba, How Beautiful Cuba Is” Song Festival, in 2011, celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the José Martí Pioneers Organization in Cuba. Seventeen soloists and three choirs competed.

The event took place in the theater hall of the Ángel Peralta Téllez Municipal Cultural Center in the province, where pieces by notable figures in Cuban music such as Miguel Matamoros, Carlos Puebla, Silvio Rodríguez, and Kiki Corona were performed. Also featured were songs by other composers such as Ramón Galardy, Miguel Pérez, Hugo Tamayo, Orlando Quesada, Joel Flores, Fernando Revé, Felipe Ventura, and Arturo Leyva.

Melissa Ornella Díaz from the Paquito González Cueto Boarding School, under the tutelage of art instructor Yailín López, and the Voices of the Future Choir from the Enma Rosa Chuí Junior Secondary School were the winners of the two grand prizes awarded that day.
